Most meal preps are boring containers of dried chicken, brown rice, and plain broccoli. Meal prep doesn’t need to be boring. My meal prep recipe attributes are:
- Cost Effective ($1-2/meal)
- Delicious
- Good Macros (Actually High Protein)
- Freezable
- Convenient to Make in Bulk
I do not like cooking 7 meals at a time for the week. I prefer to cook dozens or even 100-200 meals at once. I freeze them in my chest freezer. I keep multiple recipes of around 100-200 meals on hand. I defrost the meals in my fridge a few days in advance and then reheat the food. I avoid food fatigue by making food taste good and by rotating recipes throughout the week. I still eat out on the weekends and occasionally during the week.
You don’t have to start off like me making 100-200 meals in a weekend. Start off small by making just 10-20 meals in a weekend and freeze some. Always do a test freeze to see how well it will reheat after thawing. Use my recipes and over time you will see how easy this meal prep life is.
By living this meal prep lifestyle, I am saving money and saving time. Most of us cannot afford to eat out for most of our meals and we are too busy to cook every single meal. Delicious and cheap meal prep just makes sense. Read more about my thoughts on meal prep here: Meal Prep Fundamentals.
Note about fruits/veggies: Most of my meals do not have veggies or fruits in them. You do not need a recipe to eat fresh fruits and veggies. Eat them fresh on the side or during different meals. Prepping fresh fruits and veggies takes very little time and clean up, so I just eat them fresh daily. Frozen vegetable medleys can also be quick and cost effective. Frozen vegetables can be steamed, roasted, or even microwaved with a little bit of water in minutes. Don’t overcomplicate fruits and vegetables. Just eat them however you can.
